Today is the perfect day for your player to get outside and work on Wall Ball!!
Again this year we are going to focus a lot on the stick work your player should be doing off the field. "Wall Ball" is essentially the time that your player should be spending on her own, every week, practicing her stick skills. It is fundemental to your players development and easily the single most factor that will help your player enjoy the game more.
We're going to have weekly or bi-weekly challenges for the girls to complete and - of course - we will be offering up prizes commensurate with the challenge.
For starters and to get the girls in the habit, we asked the girls to get against the wall just 3x for 10 minutes before Monday's practice and to practice throwing/catching with both the right and the left hand. Those that complete the challenge will be awarded with a lacrosse hair band. (The girls asked me if Nona's gift cards could be a prize and we said YES. We will come up with a challenge for that!) In order for your daughter to claim her prize you need to email Maura Quinn or myself to let us know your player has been against the wall 3x for at least 10 minutes with both Right and Left handed catching.
If you do not have a lacrosse rebounder/bounce-back or a wall you are willing to sacrifice, SYL has built a real wall-ball wall at the high school on the new sports complex. It is next to the back field. I will be there on Sunday at 3:00 for 20 min or so if anyone wants to join me!
Here are a few videos for you and your player to watch to get a better idea of proper technique.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
